So what is "Z" class?

Well "Z" class refers to the size of engine that is allowed tobe used in a racing hull and that means an engine size of0.12 cu in (cubic inches). This is probably the ideal class to start racing with but it won't necassarily work out to be the cheapest, it just depends on wether you want to run standard or modified.

"Z" class rules are as follows:

Standard class:

  1. The engine must be a standard 0.12 cu in, no price limit applies to the engine.
  2. No gearbox of any description is allowed.
  3. The drive can only be submerged. In other words the propeller must be situated under the hull of the boat and not protrude past the point where the bottom of the boat meets the transom.
  4. The rudder may be mounted internally or on the transom.
  5. Tuned exhuast pipes are allowed.

Modified class:

  1. Again no price limit is made on the engine.
  2. Drive shafts may be either direct or through a gearbox and can be submerged or surface drive.
